Chandigarh | Published 13 October 2026. Panjab University’s Tech Innovation Forum and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have entered into an agreement to establish an Indovation Centre on the university’s Chandigarh campus. The agreement was announced on 6 October, according to a university statement reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The planned centre is intended to connect academic research with entrepreneurship and the development of market-ready technologies. It is an agreement to establish a facility, not a claim that a fully operational centre has already opened.
What the Panjab University-AICTE agreement covers
The memorandum of understanding was signed at AICTE headquarters in New Delhi by AICTE Member Secretary Prof Shyam Rath and Panjab University Registrar Prof Yajvender Pal Verma. The proposed centre will build on Panjab University’s Tech Innovation Forum, inaugurated in September 2026.
According to the university’s announcement, the initiative is intended to support innovation across Chandigarh and the northwestern region, with attention to research commercialisation, entrepreneurship and cooperation between educational institutions and industry. A signed collaboration agreement establishes a framework for future work; it should not be confused with a separately verified funding sanction or completion date.
Focus on startups, intellectual property and technology transfer
The areas outlined in the announcement include artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, deep technology, Industry 4.0 and intellectual property development. The initiative also envisages stronger technology-transfer support so researchers and innovators can explore paths from laboratory work to useful products or enterprises.
For early-stage entrepreneurs, the significance lies in the proposed connection between technical expertise, intellectual property guidance and commercial partners. Those are planned areas of support; the available reporting does not establish how many startups will be selected, the amount of financial assistance available to individual founders or an opening date for applications.
What Chandigarh entrepreneurs should watch next
Future implementation details will determine how founders, researchers and student innovators can actually use the proposed centre. Useful milestones to watch include a public operating timeline, eligibility criteria, institutional partnerships and any announced incubation or technology-licensing programmes.
The proposed hub adds to Chandigarh’s wider conversation about supporting new enterprises. For separate information on already announced local grants, see our report on startup and incubator assistance under the Chandigarh Startup Policy.
